About Mokebe High school

Mokebe Senior Secondary is a community bestowed school. It is the first and now the only high school in Senotlelo Village, accommodating learners from all over Senotlelo and neighbouring villages. It is a public, English medium school offering a variety of school subjects.

The doors of Mokebe Senior Secondary opened on January 1977, however the school was founded in January 1976. The formation and operations of the school took place in 1976 at Mohlatseng Primary School with 73 learners in an only class. Mr Ndala, first school principal and Mr Mojela, the first and only teacher were the only staff responsible for teaching and running of the school. Later in the year, Mr Mogotlane arrived as the school’s second teacher inspiring the formation of another class where 73 learners were then divided into two.

The purpose behind building Mokebe Senior Secondary School was due to the crisis involving an unaccommodated weight of the high school learners in the community. The community of Senotlelo gathered, contributed and laboured into building the school structure without the assistance from Department of Education.

The school building was finally ready for occupation in 1977, a year later after it was founded. Each relocating learner from Mohlatseng Primary School had to carry their own desk to the new school building. The same learners were tasked with digging toilets for the school while Mr Machika, a then School Committee Chairperson erected the school big fence with his hands. Mokebe Senior Secondary continued to grow learners in multiple numbers and more teachers were employed and deployed to the school and then the crisis was solved.

The new school motto “Sedibeng Sa Thuto” which translates to “The fountain of education” encompasses the meaning of the school perfectly. The school was named after its primary location referred as “Mokebeng” which interpret as a fountain. The new school motto was created by the recent school leadership including the governing body.
